Getting Ready For Your First Botox Appointment

Botox increased its popularity during the pandemic. Now that offices and workplaces are re-opening, you may be looking for something to freshen your look before your long-awaited return.

While there is lots of information out there on Botox, we are going to give you the most important information that you need for your first Botox appointment.

What is Botox?

According to BotoxCosmetic.com, Botox works under the surface of your skin to decrease the muscle activity in your face that can cause wrinkles, such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. By relaxing the muscles, it makes your face look visibly smoother.

Botox is different from filler in that it does not plump up areas of your face, but instead it reduces wrinkles and creates a smooth look.

How Much Does Botox Cost?

The cost of Botox depends on how much you receive, where it is being injected, and your provider. A unit of Botox often falls in the range of $12.50 – $15, while it may cost $250+ per area. Dr. Fishman often runs specials where Botox is available at a lowered price. Be on the look out for these specials by signing up for our email list and checking out our Monthly Specials and Wrinkle Away Wednesday pages.

What Should I Do Before and After My Appointment?

There are not too many rules before a Botox appointment, except to come with clean skin and make sure Dr. Fishman or Cindy is aware of any medications you are taking.

After the procedure, you should avoid laying down for a few hours, drinking alcohol, and being directly in the heat for about 24 hours.

Does It Hurt?

Typically, the injection feels like a tiny pinch. Sometimes your provider will use ice to numb the area before it is treated. The treatment is only about 10 minutes long, so the pain is minimal.

How Long Does Botox Last?

Results vary from patient to patient; however, results typically last three to four months.

Can I Undo My Botox?

Once Botox is injected, there is no way to remove it or dissolve it. The only way for Botox to be removed is through the body’s natural process. Because it cannot be removed, it’s important that you and Dr. Fishman or Cindy understand what your goals and expectations are for the procedure.

Put Your Best Chin Forward With Juvéderm Voluma XC

The Juvéderm Voluma XC that you know and love for volumizing and contouring your cheeks is now FDA approved for augmentation of the chin region!

Juvéderm Voluma XC is one of the many hyaluronic acid-based injectables by Juvéderm. Traditionally, it has been used as a way to plump and shape the cheek area, but with the new approval, the chin area will get some love, too!Juvederm Voluma XC chin filler

Often times, the chin region is overlooked, when really, it largely contributes to facial balance. Juvéderm Voluma XC is perfect to restore the balance due to its distinctive gel properties. The filler serves as a non-surgical, minimally invasive solution to chin implants.

Chin implants require surgery, taking time off of work, weeks to months of swelling, and potential infection. Filler allows the patient to come into the office for an appointment and leave less than an hour later with a new chin. There is less pain, decreased swelling, increased precision, easily covered bruising, and essentially no interruption in your daily life. If you are looking for a big change, a chin implant might be the way to go; however, if you’re looking for a small transformation, look toward Juvéderm Voluma XC.

If you’re interested in using Juvéderm Voluma XC as a chin filler, or even for its original purpose in the cheek area, contact our office and schedule an appointment with Dr. Fishman.

The Buzz About Botox®

Botox® procedures continue to rise in popularity, with 7,056,255 total procedures being conducted in 2016—a 4% increase from 2015, according to the 2016 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report. With this continuing boost in popularity comes an influx of interest and patient inquiries. Though Botox® is a minimally invasive procedure, getting it done is still a big decision, with a lot of factors to consider. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions patients have about our Botox® procedures.

What is Botox®?

Botox® Cosmetic, also called botulinum toxin type A, is an injectable prescription medicine that is used to relax the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles.

Why would I want Botox®?

Botox® Cosmetic is a simple procedure that is proven to temporarily reduce or eliminate:

Frown lines in between the brows
Forehead creases
Crow’s feet near the eyes
Wrinkles on the sides of the nose
Thick bands in the neck
How does Botox® work?

Botox® injections block the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. It is measured in “units” and administered through tiny needles that inject the medicine into the facial muscles.

How quickly will I see results?

It will take approximately three to seven days for the drug to take effect, and will reach its full potential in about two weeks.

How long do the results last?

Botox® results typically last from three to six months. Depending on the area of treatment, patients can receive injections about every three to four months.

Am I a good candidate for this treatment?

Botox® is available to men and women over the age of 18 who would like to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on their face. While Botox® can be beneficial at any age (it is an excellent proactive treatment to combat fine lines in your 20s and 30s), it is most popular among people aged 40-65, as this is when changes in skin tend to accelerate.

How do I know if the wellness center I’ve selected is a trustworthy Botox® provider?

All Botox® treatments should be administered by a by a board-certified medical or plastic surgeon, or by a registered nurse who is specially trained in the procedure and supervised by a board-certified surgeon. Another trick to identifying a trustworthy Botox® administrator is to look at how they talk about their product offering—a knowledgeable provider will charge by “unit” rather than by “area” because every patient is different and requires a personalized dosage for each area treated.
